The William Chrisman girls basketball team used a strong defense to claim a tournament title.

The Bears never allowed Liberty North to reach double figures in any quarter on the way to a 45-27 rout of the Eagles Friday in the championship of the Raymore-Peculiar 6th Annual Sonic Classic.

Leading 11-9 after one quarter, the Bears outscored the Eagles 14-4 in the second quarter to take control with a 25-15 halftime advantage.

Junior forward Jennifer David led the way, pouring in 19 points, while her sister, sophomore forward Jacque David, added nine. Senior Adreal Bell added eight points and sophomore Gia Moore contributed seven – five in the second-quarter surge – for the Bears, who improved to 10-1 overall with their second tournament title of the season.

Jacque David and Moore were named to the all-tournament team.

VAN HORN 40, KANSAS CITY CHRISTIAN 34: It took an extra period but Van Horn got its Crossroads Conference schedule off to a winning start Friday.

The Falcons outscored host Kansas City Christian 10-4 in overtime to claim the league win and improve to 5-5 overall.

The teams played to an 18-18 tie at halftime and were deadlocked 30-30 after the fourth quarter.

Addy Smith scored 10 points and Erica Parish added nine to lead the Falcons.
