The Grain Valley wrestling team dominated the upper weights Tuesday to claim a dual win over a tough Smithville team.
The host Eagles earned four pins in five matches between 170 and 285 pounds to top the Warriors 45-24.
Hunter Newsom (170 pounds) started with a first-period pin. Jacob Gilkey (182) then earned a second-period pin. Jaden Worthington (220) took just 12 seconds to earn a fall, and Donovan McBride (285) pinned his opponent in just 53 seconds.
Thomas Barrett (126, 30 seconds) and Caleb Benshoof (132, 59 seconds) also earned quick pins for the Eagles. Eli Hendricks (106), Austin Pederson (120) and Trent LeGrotte (145) each won decisions.
PARK HILL 48, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 25: Lee’s Summit North provided one of the toughest challenges of the season for nationally ranked Park Hill but fell in a dual Tuesday at North.
The Broncos earned five wins, including pins by Adrian Castenada (160), Zane Ragland (182) and Mark McGhee (285). Lane Overton (170) won a 10-2 major decision and Caden Schweitzer (113) won a 2-0 decision but the Broncos couldn’t make up for three forfeits.
OAK GROVE 43, EXCELSIOR SPRINGS 34: Bonus points from four pins, a technical fall and two major decisions helped Oak Grove top host Excelsior Springs Tuesday.
Zach Kroah (182), Zander Brinegar (195), Tyler Curd (285) and Keegan Scarborough (126) all recorded first-period pins for the Panthers. Anthony Erickson (145) won a 17-1 technical fall at the 3:31 mark, while Noah Sears (170) started with a 19-8 major decision and Adrian Whitehead (160) won 17-4.
PARK HILL SOUTH 73, TRUMAN 6: Chase Schroeder (195) received a forfeit victory for Truman’s lone win in a 73-6 loss to Park Hill South.
The Patriots lost all five matches on the mat and had eight open weight classes.
