The Blue Springs girls swimming and diving team has completed a second straight dual season undefeated.
Despite swimming their third meet in three days, the Wildcats tallied 162 points to top host St. Joseph Central (68), Grain Valley (42) and St. Joseph Bishop LeBlond (13) Thursday in St. Joseph.
Blue Springs finished its dual schedule 22-0 this season after going unbeaten last season as well.
“Our undefeated record is a testament to how much these girls wanted it,” Wildcats coach Kevin Bigham said. “This is our third meet in as many days and the squad did an amazing job of stepping up and giving our team one of our most well-rounded performances of the season. Everyone was exhausted and sore but this group once again found a way to persevere and get the job done. I couldn’t be prouder of these ladies.”
The Wildcats won 10 of 11 events (no diving) as Shaedyn Read and Jenna Wright each claimed a pair of individual victories.
Read prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 5.53 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:02.72), while Wright prevailed in the 50 freestyle (26.48) and 100 freestyle (1:02.72).
Gracie Lefholz won the 100 butterfly (1:09.47), Abby Caudle won the 500 freestyle (6:13.91), Lou Bellinghausen prevailed in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.27) and the Wildcats swept all three relay events.
Rachel Turpin, Maddie Epple, Ella Boyle and Bailey Reich led the way for Grain Valley. Turpin finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:08.74) and fourth in the 50 freestyle (28.49). Epple was fourth in the 200 IM (2:50.06) and the 100 backstroke (1:20.18). Boyle finished fourth in both the 500 free (7:09.19) and 100 breaststroke (1:27.97).
