The Truman boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start and Jeilel Phillips’ foul trouble in a 56-39 Suburban Large Seven loss to host Liberty North Wednesday.

Liberty North jumped to a 16-7 lead after one quarter and extended it to 30-11 by halftime.

"We fell behind early and just could not make any shots. We also got out-rebounded tonight. We also had major foul trouble in the first half,” Truman coach Rod Briggs said. “Jeilel Phillips was not in the game much, which hurt us a lot. We are a very tough team when we have him playing well and in the game.

“We seemed to be affected by the change to an away game, but we talked about controlling the controllable. Liberty North played very hard and had a good game plan to stop our better players.”

Kaimen Lennox scored 10 points, Max Black added nine and Don Edmondson had eight to pace Truman (7-9, 0-4 Large Seven).
