A strong start and a big finish propelled the Van Horn girls basketball team to a victory Thursday.

Daisy Washington poured in 19 points to lead the Falcons to a 46-42 non-conference victory over host Pembroke Hill.

Van Horn jumped to an 18-9 lead after one quarter and led 25-17 at halftime despite getting into foul trouble.

That caught up with the Falcons in the third quarter as the Raiders outscored them 15-4 to take a 32-29 lead into the final period.

But the Falcons bounced back with a 17-10 advantage in the final quarter to improve to 8-8 overall.

Bre Pace added 10 points for Van Horn.

TRUMAN 71, LEE’S SUMMIT 38: Truman poured in 24 points in the first quarter on the way to a rout of Suburban Large Seven foe Lee’s Summit Thursday night.

The Patriots led 24-11 after one quarter and extended it to 38-18 by halftime. Truman improved to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
