The Grain Valley wrestling team won its last five matches to erase a deficit and claim a Suburban Small Seven win over Platte County Tuesday.

Trailing 21-12 in the dual, the Eagles swept wins from 170 pounds to 285 to claim a 37-27 victory over the visiting Pirates.

Hunter Newsom (170) started the comeback with a 3-1 sudden victory over Jayden Walls. Jacob Gilkey (182) followed with another sudden victory, defeating Drake Lacina 7-5.

David DeWeese (195) won an 8-0 major decision to give the Eagles the lead at 28-27, and Jaden Worthington (220) sealed the win with a pin in just 27 seconds. Donovan McBride (285) capped it with a 4-1 win.

Caleb Benshoof (132) and Trent LeGrotte (145) gave the Eagles their first two wins, both with pins to set the stage for the comeback.

INDIANS SWEEP: Fort Osage finished its dual season at 9-4 with a sweep of Rockhurst and North Kansas City Tuesday.

The Indians routed Rockhurst 64-13 and topped host North Kansas City 48-24.

A.J. Sanchez (145) took just 19 seconds to get a pin in the win over North Kansas City, and Dylan Reed (106), Kai Schreier-Mameula (113) and Josh Newton (160) won major decisions to lead the Indians.

Individual results for the Rockhurst match were unavailable.

VAN HORN SPLITS: Host Van Horn capitalized on seven forfeit wins to down Ruskin but a close match against Lee’s Summit went the Tigers’ way Tuesday.

Chandler Seavers (152) and Brandon Ellhoff (220) each won decisions to lead Van Horn to a 48-30 win over Ruskin.

Payton Moses (120), Caleb Allee (160) and C.J. Batchhelder (182) each had pins but it wasn’t enough to get past Lee’s Summit in a 45-30 loss.

JAGUARS DROP TWO: Blue Springs South managed just four wins on the mat while dropping a pair of matches to Oak Park and host Raymore-Peculiar Tuesday.

The Jaguars fell 54-21 to Oak Park and 74-6 to Ray-Pec.

Cooper Boyles (195) and Alex Israelite (138) each won by pin and Cooper Doolin (132) won a decision in the loss to Oak Park.

Evan Theilin (182) earned a pin for South’s lone win against Ray-Pec.

STALEY 60, TRUMAN 13: Truman was unable to overcome eight open weight classes in a Suburban Large Seven loss to visiting Staley Tuesday.

Jason Chapman (138) won with a pin, Chase Schroeder (195) won a 10-2 major decision and Nathan Noda (145) won a 7-6 decision for Truman’s only wins.

OAK GROVE 47, HARRISONVILLE 24: Oak Grove won each match that was contested on the mat to earn a Missouri River Valley Conference West win over host Harrisonville Tuesday.

Keegan Scarborough (126) earned a first-period pin and Anthony Erickson (145) and Noah Sears (170) each earned technical falls. Evan Hall (132) won a major decision and Carson Smith (138), Zander Brinegar (195) and Garrett Hudspeth (220) each won decisions.
