The smaller schools dominated the bigger ones Saturday at Oak Grove’s Panther Classic wrestling tournament.
Oak Grove finished third with 164 points behind another Class 2 state power in Monett (222.5) and Class 3 Smithville (165) in the team standings. Blue Springs finished fifth at 137, Fort Osage was ninth at 95.5 and William Chrisman finished 10th at 70.
Oak Grove and Blue Springs each had one individual champion. Blue Springs sophomore Cayden Dotson captured the 106-pound title, defeating Owen Uhls of Fulton 5-2 in the final.
Tyler Curd claimed Oak Grove’s title in the 285-pound class, defeating William Chrisman’s David Toese 9-5 in the title match.
Fort Osage had a pair of runner-up finishes. AJ Sanchez made the 145-pound finals but fell 8-5 to Smithville’s Ryan Hampton. Roman Tinoco (170) also made the finals but lost 5-2 to Belton’s Robert Weber.
Oak Grove had seven others finish in the top four, including a runner-up finish for Keegan Scarborough (126). Kaden Scarborough (106), Adrian Whitehead (160), Noah Sears (170) and Zander Brinegar (195) each finished third and Evan Hall (132) and Anthony Erickson (145) were fourth for the Panthers.
DeAndre Thomas (138) took second for Blue Springs. Jastin Robertson (126) and Jaxson McIntyre (132) each finished third, while Michael Infranca (170), Lawson Lackey (182) and Koby Mansfield (195) were fourth for the Wildcats.
Toese had Chrisman’s top finish. Mason Walters (182) finished third and Kash Ocobock (113) and Jose Muravilla (126) were fourth for the Bears.
Josh Rieck (152) had Fort Osage’s only other top-four finish, taking fourth.
