The rain didn’t keep the Lee’s Summit North and Blue Springs boys tennis teams from playing as the match was moved inside to the Metro East Tennis Center in Blue Springs on Tuesday.

Even with the changes, the Broncos had little trouble taking down the Wildcats in a 9-0 victory.

In singles play, Joe Hammerly defeated Luke David 6-1, Nick Mathis topped Dylan Shryer 7-5, Matthew DeBacker beat Josh Gordon 6-1, Logan Leslie defeated Jay’Von McKinney 6-0, Lukas Parrish topped Carson Rothove 6-3 and Michael Welsh beat Daniel Gordon 6-0.

In doubles play, Hammerly and DeBacker beat David and Shryer 6-1; Mathis and Leslie beat Josh Gordon and McKinney 6-0; and Parrish and Welsh beat Rothove and Daniel Gordon 6-4.

“With matches shortened to Pro-6s, it was very important to jump out to a quick start and all our guys were able to do exactly that,” North coach Stu Reece said. “It was a solid effort up and down the lineup.”

On Monday, the Wildcats No. 1 and No. 2 singles players went undefeated but their team fell 6-3 in a non-conference matchup with Liberty North.

The No. 1 doubles team of David and Shryer won 8-5. They also won their singles matches as David earned an 8-4 victory at No. 1 and Shryer earned a 9-8 (7-3 tiebreaker) win at No. 2.

“Our guys fought hard against a really good Liberty North team,” Blue Springs coach Anna Cole said.
