Blue Springs South’s Grant Wall missed making the Class 4 state golf tournament by just two strokes last season.

Now the senior is in position to possibly earn all-state honors.

Wall fired a 1-over-par 73 and is tied for seventh after the first round of the Class 4 Boys Golf State Championships Monday at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar.

Wall is just five strokes behind leader Dawson Meek of Springfield Glendale, who shot a 4-under 68 to take a two-shot lead over Lafayette-Wildwood’s Max Kreikemeir heading into today’s final round.

The top 15 individual finishers and ties earn all-state honors.

The Blue Springs South team is in eighth with a total of 324 after the first round. They trail fourth-place Rockhurst (309) by 15 strokes in the quest for a state trophy. Lafayette-Wildwood leads at 304.

Following Wall, Dylan Boyer shot 81 and is in a tie for 45th. Ryan Dykhouse (83), Grant Williamson (87) and Ryan Cunningham (91) completed the Jaguars’ scoring.

Blue Springs’ Blake Rooney also shot 81 and is tied for 45th. His teammate, Seth Wildoner, shot 89.

District champion Kohlin Hicks of Lee’s Summit North shot 82 and is tied for 57th.

The current cutoff for all-state is 3-over 75.
