The William Chrisman girls tennis team gave Kearney a strong challenge in a non-conference contest, but fell 6-3 Friday in its season opener.

The No. 2 doubles team of Tori Gant and Hunter Taylor earned an 8-2 victory, Gant claimed an 8-6 win in No. 1 singles and No. 6 singles player Laurie Douglas won 8-4 for Chrisman.

“Returning No. 1 player Tori Gant won a tough match,” Chrisman coach Jason Grubb said. “Her mental composure was awesome even though she battled her physical inconsistencies. We just think the world of her."
