The Blue Springs volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday.
But the Wildcats didn’t go down without a fight.
Blue Springs claimed a 25-16 win in the first set, but Lee’s Summit West edged the Wildcats 31-29 and 27-25 in the next two sets to claim the Suburban Big Six win at Blue Springs High School.
“Doesn’t get much closer than that,” Blue Springs coach Katie Straka said after her team dropped to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. “Another scrappy Big Six conference game – long rallies, great defense, aggressive offense on both sides.”
Aliyah Bello knocked down 10 kills and Chloe Kaminski added eight to lead Blue Springs’ hitting. Anna Christenson turned in a strong night on defense with 30 digs.
FORT OSAGE 25-25, BELTON 18-18: Fort Osage improved to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the Suburban Middle Seven Conference with a two-set win over host Belton Thursday.
NORTH KANSAS CITY 25-25, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 9-18: William Chrisman couldn’t overcome a slow start in a Suburban Middle Seven home loss to the Hornets.
Chrisman dropped to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
