The Grain Valley softball team went 2-1 in pool play to start the Liberty/Liberty North September Slam Friday.
The Eagles topped Wentzville Timberland 10-8 and Liberty North 4-3 but fell 8-5 to Pleasant Hill.
The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning against Liberty North and held on for the win.
Malia Gutierrez doubled with three RBIs and Olivia White had a hit and an RBI to lead the Eagles. Avery Huffman pitched a complete game for win, allowing four hits and five walks while striking out 11.
The Eagles pounded out 12 hits in the win over Timberland.
Bri Leigh Sims and Gutierrez each hit home runs. Sims had three RBIs and Gutierrez had two. Makayla Chairez also had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
Hailey Hemme went all five innings for the win.
Pleasant Hill scored five runs in the fourth inning to overcome Grain Valley’s 4-2 lead. Huffman had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Eagles.
TRUMAN 5, LIBERTY NORTH 4: Truman rallied in the sixth and seventh innings to claim a Suburban Large Seven win over Liberty North Thursday.
Kara Amos, who pitched a complete game, singled in two runs in the top of the seventh to give the Patriots the 5-4 lead.
Amos then completed her win in the bottom of the seventh. She allowed one hit and no walks while striking out seven.
Liberty North scored all four of its runs in the third inning thanks to a Truman error.
Cecelia Mora hit a home run and Erynn Boatright drove in a run in the sixth to pull Truman within 4-3, setting up Amos’ big hit.
Katie Sutton added four hits as Truman improved to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference, avenging a 3-2 loss to the Eagles on Sept. 10.
