The long wait is finally over.
The Blue Springs boys soccer team had not beaten Lee’s Summit North since a 4-2 win on Oct. 4, 2006.
That all changed Wednesday when the Wildcats blanked the Broncos 5-0 to snap a 30-game losing streak to Lee’s Summit North.
Matthew Martinez scored both of his goals in the first half to put Blue Springs ahead 2-0. Alex Maliwat scored just before halftime to put the Wildcats in command 3-0 at the intermission.
Carlos Llamas added two goals in the second half to seal the Wildcats’ first win over the Broncos in more than 13 years.
Max Hayes and Matt Eisenreich combined for the shutout in goal as the Wildcats won their third straight to improve to 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the Suburban Big Six Conference.
Lee’s Summit North, which lost its third straight, dropped to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Blue Springs scored late in the junior varsity game to claim a 1-0 victory.
