The Blue Springs South boys swimming and diving team got another person to state and picked up a win with it.
Sophomore diver James Price qualified for state as the Jaguars topped Lee’s Summit 166-115 Tuesday at the Blue Springs Family YMCA.
Price totaled 240.05 points to surpass the automatic state qualifying standard of 230.
“This was a good way to wind up our dual meet season with a victory against the Tigers,” Jaguars head coach Errich Oberlander said. “We were able to recognize our three seniors in Josh Hafner, Andrew Sorrelli, and John Layland.
“The highlight of the evening was when James Price absolutely nailed his last dive to achieve the automatic state qualifying score in diving,” Oberlander added. “James is a first year sophomore diver with zero diving experience, but he has worked extremely hard and been very coachable. This is also more proof that we have the best dive coach in the Midwest in Missy Jackson.”
Landon Luke and George Bahr led the way for the swimmers, garnering two victories each. Luke took first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.12 seconds) and 100 butterfly (58.54), both in state consideration times. Bahr prevailed in the 200 freestyle (1:52.65) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.62), also both state consideration times.
Chason Smith won the 100 freestyle in a state consideration time (53.46) and Luke Fournier took first in the 200 individual medley (2:26.97).
Landon, Hafner, Ryan Griffel and Bahr won the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.82) and Hafner, Luke, Smith and Bahr won the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.58), also both state consideration times.
