The Grain Valley boys soccer team goes into Class 3 District 14 play next week with some momentum.

Alex Engram had a goal and an assist as the Eagles avenged an earlier loss to Smithville with a 3-1 Suburban Small Seven road victory Thursday in their regular season finale.

“Overall, I thought we played well tonight,” Grain Valley coach Tyler Nichol said after his team improved to 12-4-3 overall and finished second in the conference behind 20-1 Platte County at 9-3. “We played (Smithville) in our first conference game of the season, lost 1-0 and struggled to create anything offensively. To put three goals in tonight shows how far we’ve come and how much we’ve grown throughout the season.”

Jack Knust scored off a Kendall Schrader assist in the 15th minute to put the Eagles ahead 1-0, but the Warriors scored in the 39th minute to make it 1-1 at halftime.

Engram scored what proved to be the game-winner off a Nate Booker assist four minutes into the second half.

Engram then assisted on Pierson Jaynes’ insurance goal in the 65th minute.

Grain Valley meets host Raytown South at 7 p.m. Monday in a Class 3 District 14 semifinal.

WILLIAM CHRISMAN 4, RUSKIN 1: William Chrisman closed out its regular season with a conference victory.

Four different players scored – two in each half – as the Bears improved to 8-13 overall and finished 6-6 in the Suburban Middle Seven with their fifth win in seven games.

Conner Brende gave Chrisman the early lead in the fourth minute when he headed in a corner kick by Tanner Jolley. Thomas Beem made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute.

Ruskin cut the Bears’ lead to 2-1 in the 53rd minute, but Joseph Casebolt answered two minutes later on an assist from Cody Lien. Jolley added an insurance goal in the final minute.

Chrisman hosts the Class 3 District 15 Tournament and plays Excelsior Springs at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
