The Lee’s Summit North soccer team couldn’t get enough momentum to get past rival Lee’s Summit in the Class 4 District 13 championship Thursday.

Max Pycior scored in the sixth minute and the host Tigers never trailed in a 6-1 victory over the Broncos at Hertzog Stadium.

Lee’s Summit scored again early in the second half for a 3-0 lead.

Carson Wilcox headed in a corner kick by Cameron Brennan to cut the Broncos’ deficit to 3-1.

“We grabbed the momentum and had renewed energy,” North coach Ryan Kelley said after his team finished 9-12-1. “We had multiple chances but the LSHS keeper, Jackson Wells, was up to the challenge.”

Well tipped a Liam Frank shot off the crossbar, then saved the two follow shots to preserve the Tigers’ two goal lead.

“LSHS got three more goals in the final seven minutes as we were sending players forward trying to find the equalizer to put the match away,” Kelley said. “Despite getting down early we fought hard through the second half and we showed a great amount of heart.”

Lee’s Summit (19-0) will host District 14 champion Rockhurst (16-6) in a sectional at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hertzog Stadium.
