The Blue Springs wrestling team captured second place in the Gold Division while Grain Valley and Oak Grove took fourth and fifth in the Blue Division at the Missouri Duals tournament Saturday at Jefferson City Helias Catholic High School.
Blue Springs went 5-1 overall in the round-robin Gold Division. The Wildcats defeated Columbia Father Tolton (54-21), Waynesville (41-24), Eureka (38-30), Owensville (62-12) and Lee’s Summit West (36-31) but fell to Jefferson City (49-15).
The Wildcats then finished fourth overall after falling 52-23 to Lebanon, the Blue Division runner-up, in the third-place match. Neosho, the Blue Division winner, topped Jefferson City 49-22 in the championship match.
In Blue Division round-robin action, Grain Valley defeated Oak Grove (42-27) and Blair Oaks (51-27) but lost to Neosho (66-14), Lebanon (54-21) and host Helias (46-29) to finish fourth.
In addition to the loss to Grain Valley, Oak Grove defeated Bolivar (53-24) and Blair Oaks (36-22) and fell to Helias (39-36), Lebanon (53-18) and Neosho (72-12).
In the seventh-place match, Grain Valley defeated Eureka 60-18. Oak Grove fell 45-27 to Waynesville in the ninth-place match.
For Blue Springs, Korbin Shepherd (126) and Cayden Dotson (120) led the way for Blue Springs, going unbeaten. Shepherd was 7-0, including two forfeits, and Dotson finished 7-0, including three forfeits. Brock Sullivan (285) went 6-1 and Jaxson McIntyre (152/145) was 5-2 for the Wildcats.
For Grain Valley, Trenton Starr finished 7-0, Donovan McBride (285) was 6-1, Hunter Newsom (182) finished 5-1, Dru Azcona (113) was 4-1 and Tyler Groves (106) and Drake Tipton (170/182) each finished 4-2.
For Oak Grove, Kaden Scarborough (113) was 6-1, Adrian Whitehead (170) was 5-1 and Zander Brinegar (220) was 3-1.
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH INVITATIONAL: Host Lee’s Summit North captured the title in its own tournament Saturday.
The Broncos compiled 319 points to top runner-up Odessa (275.5) and Cameron (266.5).
Caden Schweitzer (120), David Spiller (132), Hunter Ross (145), Zane Ragland (182) and Owen Moore (285) each captured titles in their respective weight classes for North. Triston Jones (152) took second while Ryan McNeel (126) and Aaron Barnhill (195) each finished third.
COFFMAN INVITATIONAL: Van Horn claimed fifth place and host Truman was 12th in the Don Coffman Invitational Saturday.
Van Horn totaled 133 points to finish behind Raymore-Peculiar (231), Kansas City (Kan.) Harmon (160.5), Grandview (156.5) and Springfield Glendale (155.5). Truman tallied 45.5 points.
Ethan Moses (113) and Steven Campos (132) each claimed second place to lead Van Horn. Connor Hiciano (160) finished third.
David Brack (285) finished third and Blake Butler (195) was fourth to lead Truman.
