Anna Hess of Lee’s Summit North finished first in two events to lead the Broncos to a third-place finish in a five-team meet Friday at Blue Springs South.

Hess won the 100-yard backstroke in a state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 1.61 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 55.92 seconds for North, which finished with 461 team points. Hess also teamed with Olivia Neidt, Madson Goff and Morgan Andersen to place second in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.90.

North had another gold medalist in Annica Valmassei, who placed first in 1-meter diving with a state-qualifying score of 237.60 points. The Broncos also placed third in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

Blue Springs South placed second with 565 points and was led by Anna Zweerink, who took second 200 individual medley. Regi Hecker took third in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and joined Zweerink, Kennedy Hecker and Maelyn MacLean in taking second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Kaylee Lombardo placed third in 1-meter diving for the Jaguars.

Grain Valley, fourth overall with 268 points, had Piper Barnard place second in diving and Rachel Turpin fourth in the 100 butterfly.

Liberty, which took first in nine events, won the team title with 642 points.
