The Truman girls basketball team outscored Liberty North 30-25 over the final three quarters.
It was that big zero in the first quarter that ruined any chance of the Patriots winning in a 39-30 Suburban Large Seven loss to Liberty North Thursday night.
The Patriots started ice cold from the field and trailed 14-0 after the first quarter. They outscored the Eagles 12-11 in the second quarter but still trailed 25-12 at halftime.
Truman, which shot just 3 of 8 from the free throw line, pulled within 30-24 after three quarters but Liberty North hung on for the win.
Deon Monroe scored 17 points and Taliyah Scott chipped in five to lead the Patriots (14-8, 5-4 Large Seven), who have lost four straight.
ST. MICHAEL 68, GRANDVIEW CHRISTIAN 13: Sara LaJaunie fired in a career-high 19 points to lead St. Michael the Archangel Catholic to a rout of visiting Grandview Christian Thursday.
Clare Scheier and Victoria Swingle each added 11 points as the Guardians improved to 17-7 overall.
