The Van Horn boys basketball team was unable to overcome a first-half deficit in its regular-season finale.


The Falcons fell behind host St. Joseph Lafayette 30-20 at halftime and suffered a 60-51 loss to the Fighting Irish.


Jaden Monday fired in 26 points and Jeremy Paige added 10 to lead Van Horn, which finished the regular season at 15-9 overall.


The Falcons earned a first-round bye in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament and will meet the Winnetonka-Kansas City Northeast winner in a semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Interscholastic Fieldhouse in Kansas City.

PARK HILL 54, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 49: Lee’s Summit North rallied in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome an early deficit in a Suburban Big Six loss to host Park Hill in its regular-season finale.


The Broncos trailed 18-17 after the first quarter, but the Trojans used a 15-7 advantage in the second quarter to take a 33-24 halftime lead. North, trailing 45-35, outscored the Trojans 14-9 in the fourth but was unable to make up the difference.


Elauni Bennett fired in 28 points and Halle Fee had eight to lead the way for the Broncos, who finished the regular season at 7-16 overall and 2-8 in the conference.


The Broncos meet crosstown rival Lee’s Summit (3-20) in the first round of the Class 5 District 13 Tournament at 6 p.m. Monday at Lee’s Summit High School.
