Conservation Department offers lure-making class

Crankbaits put a lot of fish on the stringer.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is offering a free online class on how to make your own crankbait fishing lures.

Crankbait lures are designed to look like small fish so as to attract the larger fish. This class will show how to carve some balsa wood and then paint the lure to look appetizing.

The class is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 18, and is open to those age 12 or older. However, because of the class size limitations, persons interested in participating must register on or before Aug. 2 by visiting https://short.mdc.mo.gov/Z8z and signing up.

Once you are registered, the department will mail you a kit including necessary materials such as balsa wood, eyelets, hooks, a plastic crankbait bill along with a list of the necessary tools.

Those registered for the class will also be emailed a WebEx link just prior to the class so that they can join in.
