Blue Springs schools to start after Labor Day

The Blue Springs School District has joined the list of those waiting until Sept. 8 to start the fall semester.

The Board of Education on Monday voted on a new school calendar for 2020-21, which includes pushing the first day of school to the day after Labor Day, mirroring a decision by many other school districts in the metro area. In a message to district families, administrators said the two-week delay will allow more time to prepare student schedules and distance learning curriculum.

Student registration for in-person or distance learning remains open until 5 p.m. Sunday on the district’s website: www.bssd.net.
