Honoring a city leader

The Examiner
Jo Reimal, right, wife of the late Don Reimal, and their daughter Kathleen Cannady are shown in front of the plaque noting the Cable Dahmer Arena suite dedicated Saturday for the former Independence mayor, who helped guide the arena’s construction and secure a minor league hockey team to play there. Don Reimal, who was mayor from 2006 to 2014 and served on the City Council for 12 years before that, died last year at the age of 78. The city dedicated the suite during Saturday’s Kansas City Mavericks hockey game. The arena opened in 2009, when the Mavericks started playing hockey. The city has two suites for all Mavericks home games, and one of those suites for many other arena events that city employees, volunteers and officials are able to use. The single suite was designated for Reimal.
