Lee’s Summit Police continue to investigate after a driver was injured in an apparent road-rage shooting Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 470.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to westbound I-470 near the Blue Parkway exit, east of the interchange with U.S. 50/Missouri 350. According to police, at a point where the highway is two lanes witnesses said a pickup truck was in the lane nearest the median and the driver changed to the outer lane apparently without seeing a white sedan approaching in that lane.

The driver of the sedan went onto the shoulder, sped around the truck, slowed and fired about 10 to 15 rounds into the passenger side of the pickup truck.

The pickup driver was hit at least once and was taken to a nearby hospital – condition unknown – and the sedan fled the scene.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white, four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Impala, with Missouri license plates and blacked-out windows.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Lee’s Summit Police at 816-969-1752.
