Motorcycle death remains under investigation

The Examiner staff

Independence Police continue to investigate a motorcycle crash from last week after a Leavenworth, Kansas man apparently fled a traffic stop.

Police say 39-year-old Andrew Keys died after he crashed his Honda motorcycle at U.S. 24 and Arlington Street in the northwest corner of the city. An officer tried to stop Keys near U.S. and Noland Road, nearly three miles away, for speeding and passing in oncoming lanes, and Keys instead sped away and the officer gave chase, police said. Near Arlington, his motorcycle overturned, struck a fence and struck a building. Keys was pronounced dead at the scene.
