As Kansas City Comets forward Rian Marques visited with his teammates and fans following a hat trick Tuesday afternoon, assistant goalkeeper coach Kenny Mayer walked by, patted the big Brazilian on the back and exclaimed, “You’re talking to the league MVP!”

As Kansas City Comets coach Stefan Stokic talked about Friday night’s season opener at St. Louis, he laughed – after making a statement that needed a bit of clarification.

Kansas City Comets midfielder Christian Anderaos, a fan favorite who has earned the nickname “The Tasmanian Devil” for his energetic approach to the indoor game, was holding court with season ticket holders Monday night as the team hosted a meet-and-greet event at The Main Event in Independence. “You know how much I love the game,” Anderaos said.

Late last season, when midfielder Christian Anderaos sparked the Kansas City Comets during their late season run that resulted in the MASL Eastern Conference title, coach Stefan Stokic quipped, “Christian is a game changer. He brings excitement to the field.

When Kansas City legend Leo Gibson announced his retirement last season, and the team parted ways with captain John Sosa, two of their teammates rose to the occasion and played pivotal roles in the Comets’ MASL Eastern Conference championship season.
