The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association raised $54,567 in its second “Truckers for Troops Telethon” earlier this month. The campaign raised funds to send care packages to troops in combat areas overseas.
During the telethon from Dec. 8 through Dec. 12, 10 percent of discounted renewal and new membership fees went toward packages and the association matched them. Discounted memberships from $45 to $25 will continue through the end of January, but the matching of funds for the telethon is completed.
Additional donations are still welcome through the end of December. Shipping will take place in mid-January by OOIDA volunteers. Handmade greeting cards are especially encouraged for donation. Towns or school names should be included, but do not include last names or other personal information. Send them to OOIDA headquarters, attention Norita Taylor or attention to Truckers for Troops, P.O. Box 1000, Grain Valley, MO 64029-0712.
