The Grain Valley Board of Aldermen meets the second and fourth Monday of each month. The board met April 27, 2009, and took the following action (All action was unanimous, unless otherwise stated. Ward 3 Alderman Bob Headley was absent.):
Voted 3-2 (with aldermen Dale Arnold and Mike Todd opposed) to approve a conditional use permit to allow a bar and grill in the Bristol Park development. The permit failed to pass, though, because issues require four “yes” votes for passage. Headley was unable to cast his vote, though he voted in favor of the conditional use permit on its first reading.
Approved the second reading of separate ordinances approving conditional use permits to allow a coffee shop and a tanning salon in the Bristol Park development.
Tabled an ordinance amending the water billing period and payments section of the city’s code.
Voted 3-2 to approve an amendment to the sewers and sewvage disposal section of the city’s code. The amendment failed to pass, though, because issues require four “yes” votes for passage.
Approved an ordinance declaring the results of the April 7 General Election. Ward 2 Alderman Chuck Johnston was unanimously approved as the city’s mayor pro-tem.
Tabled the first reading of an ordinance amending the buildings and building regulations section of the city’s code.
Approved a resolution to submit a proposal for business services and layoff aversion services under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to the Eastern Jackson County Workforce Investment Board and the Full Employment Council.
