A homeowner is safe after an early morning fire in Independence.
Fire Chief Sandy Schiess said a report of a man living at 14600 E. Kentucky Road was in another home when a fire broke out at 1:56 a.m. today.
Upon arrival, fire crews discovered the home, on East Kentucky Road and near North Dickinson Road, engulfed in smoke and flames.
“The fire could be seen in multiple areas of the house,” Schiess said. “Firefighters did what they could to get inside, but it was just too involved.”
Once it was brought under control, firefighters learned that the man had gone to a different house earlier that night.
The house was destroyed, and Schiess said the incident remains under investigation.
Today’s early morning fire followed a Monday morning fire at a home at 707 N. Third St. Schiess said preliminary reports indicate heavy smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
