Students at Independence high schools witnessed the scene of a fatal crash – with no actual loss of life – during a mock crash docu-drama staged at William Chrisman High School April 14. The Independence Fire Department, with the help of Chrisman’s Students Against Destructive Decisions.


The Think First Foundation, Independence Police, American Medical Response, LifeFlight Eagle, The Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office, Speaks Family Legacy Chapels, and B&C Towing presented the demonstration to seniors from Chrisman and Van Horn. Similar demonstrations were presented at Truman and St. Mary’s high schools.


This was the 11th time the presentation has been given.


From 2000 through 2006, one to two Chrisman students were killed in automobile accidents each year, according to the city.


Since 2006, there have been no student fatalities from Chrisman.
