The 1961 National Airport Plan, submitted to Congress by the Federal Aviation Administration, recommended the building of nine new airports in Missouri and six in Kansas City. Proposed airports for Missouri would be built in Lee’s Summit, Kansas City, Lamar, Carrollton, Bowling Green, Washington and St. Louis, where three would be located.
