Three games, three shutouts and the championship of the North Kansas City Tournament.

That was the accomplishment of the Fort Osage girls soccer team after Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Shawnee Mission (Kan.) North in the finals at Staley High School.

Beth Bedsworth scored on Paige Baumgardner’s assist in the 52nd minute for the only goal the Indians needed to claim the title. Goalkeeper Valerie Resch had to make only one save for the school record-breaking 11th shutout of the season.

“It was good,” Fort Osage coach Andrew Fletcher said of the victory. “We dominated the game and created a lot of opportunities. We put one (goal) away in the second half. It was good weekend for us.”

WILLIAM CHRISMAN 4, WINNETONKA 0: The Bears claimed fifth place in the tournament with an easy victory over Suburban Middle Seven rival Winnetonka.

Kendyl Laughlin scored two goals and Karly Boese added a goal and an assist to lead the Bears (4-8), who scored all of the goals in the first half. Cathy Robinson scored the other goal for a 2-0 lead.

“Considering what we’ve have gone through during a tough stretch and it was Easter weekend, the girls showed a lot of heart and character and played a really good first half,” Chrisman coach John Straub said.
