Speaks sponsors Holiday Remembrance Services
To give individuals a special opportunity to honor their departed family members and friends, Speaks Family Legacy Chapels in Independence will sponsor two “Special Day of Remembrance” services. The first service will be held Nov. 30, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., and the second will be Dec. 7, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Both services will be held at 2 p.m.
David Speaks, Remembrance program chairman stated, “Anyone that has suffered a loss is invited to attend, whether Speaks Chapel served the family or not. The goal of this service is to provide a meaningful way to remember a loved one and to assist the individual in the healing process.” “This service has provided healing for many that have attended, and we are confident it will do so this year as well.”
Individuals are invited to bring an ornament that personally represents their loved one and place it on a special Christmas tree in their memory. Ornaments will be provided for those who want to participate, but do not bring one.
Brad Speaks, president of Speaks Chapels, will join members of the Speaks family and Dr. Clarence Tucker in presenting these services. For many years, Dr. Tucker served as a pastor in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was the longtime pastor of Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church in Independence. A certified bereavement counselor and a hospice chaplain, Dr. Tucker has been involved in bereavement education throughout his career, and is author of “Holiday Blues,” a booklet for those who are facing the holidays after losing a loved one.
Refreshments will be served. The identical services are free and open to the public. While reservations are not required, you are urged to call 816-252-7900 for reservations.
