Jackson County prosecutors charged a 19-year-old man in connection with the armed robbery of a QuikTrip on East Truman Road in Independence.
Prosecutors charged George P. Hensley, of Independence, with a single count of first-degree robbery.
A Jackson County judge set Hensley’s bond at $100,000. His next court date is Oct. 13.
At 2:06 a.m. Friday, Hensley walked in the QuikTrip at 11201 E. Truman Road and demanded the employee give him money from the register, according to the probable cause statement.
“I have a gun. Empty the cash register,” Hensley told the employee, according to the statement.
An Independence patrol officer saw a black male who fit the robber’s description walking near 15th Street. When the man saw the officer, he took off running. The officer gave chase and captured the man, who was identified as Hensley.
Hensley told the officer the money was in his pocket. Hensley later told a detective that his hands were in his pockets during the robbery and he did not have a gun.
