It was tough season opener for the Van Horn girls soccer team.

Valerie Resch played in goal for 10 minutes and then scored three goals on offense to help host Fort Osage post an easy 10-0 victory over Van Horn on Wednesday.

“We weren’t very good and Fort Osage was very good,” Van Horn coach Chris Corrie said. “We have a lot of work to do.”

The game was stopped after one half because of the mercy rule.

Mercedes Marriott and Paige Baumgartner each scored two goals and Taylor Lloyd, Paige Ledbetter and Beth Bedsworth one each for the 4-0 Indians, who have outscored their opponents 25-1. Ciara Howerton had three assists.

“It was a game where people who don’t play as much got into the game,” Fort Osage coach Andrew Fletcher said. “We finished well.”

Resch and Carson Tatum combined for the shutout.

Van Horn was only able to muster one shot on goal during the contest.

Fort Osage was a 1-0 junior varsity winner.
