A youth was shot Thursday during a scuffle with Blue Springs police.

The wound, to the thigh, was not life-threatening, police said.

Police went to an apartment in the Kingsridge Apartments complex at Northwest Arlington Place and Northwest Kingsridge Drive in Blue Springs to serve a warrant on a juvenile at about 4:30 p.m. They knocked on the door and, through a window, saw the boy flee to a back room. The door was open, the officers called out “Police!” and went inside.

The teenage juvenile was hiding in a closet, and a struggle ensued, during which one of the officers shot the juvenile. The juvenile was taken to an area hospital but was expected to recover. No officers were injured in the exchange.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
