Singer offers concert

Christian country singer/songwriter Heather Layne will give a free concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Timothy Lutheran Church, 301 S.W. Wyatt Road, Blue Springs. Grief seminar today

Eastgate Christian Church will hold an “Understanding Your Grief” seminar from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, 4010 S. River Blvd., Independence. The seminar is presented by the Rev. Dr. Clarence Tucker, who holds a doctorate degree in grief and bereavement, and a certificate in thanatology from the National Institute of Death Education, with special emphasis in grief counseling. He is the author of “Holiday Blues.”

‘Living Water’ theme for Sunday sermon

Mary Jacks Dynes will speak on the theme “Living Water” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Metro Men’s Chorus at First Christian

The Kansas City Metro Men’s Chorus will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, 701 N.W. 15th St., Blue Springs. The mission of the chorus is to praise God through their music and service to those in need. A free will offering will go to “Micah Ministries.”

Garage sale planned

Open Arms Community of Christ Church will hold a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2 at the church, 1101 W. Walnut St., Independence. The sale includes antiques, clothes, collectibles, furniture and toys.

‘4 His Love’ to play at Calvary Baptist

“4 His Love” will give a gospel concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 900 N.W. 22nd St., Blue Springs.

This group has been heard on radio and around the area, and have open for several of the finest groups in Southern Gospel Music, Karen Peck & New River, Masters Voice, and Brian Free & Assurance. A love offering will be taken for the group.

 A church member couple, Richard and Alda Hill, who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, are renewing their wedding vows just prior to the concert.

National conference for women planned

Lee’s Summit Community Church will be a local gathering place for a simulcast conference for thousands of women from all around the U.S. on April 1 and 2. It’s from 7 to 9:30 p.m. April 1 and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 2.

The purpose is to challenge and inspire women to apply the Bible to their everyday lives. Priscilla Shirer, a Christian author and speaker, will present “Lifeway Women’s Going Beyond: Life Interrupted Simulcast.” Anthony Evans will lead worship.

Operation Christmas Child fundraiser

A Scrapbook Fundraiser to benefit Operation Christmas Child will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 2 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1950 S.W. Eagles Parkway, Grain Valley.

There will be a “recycle table,” and attendees are asked to bring one-of-a-kinds, impulse buys, random gifts, etc., to share with other fellow scrappers.

The $20 fee includes dinner and snacks, as well as coffee and tea. All proceeds will be used toward postage for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. This year’s goal is 700 shoeboxes. First UMC plans dance for singles

The First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs is holding a Spring Fling Dance for singles from 8 to 11 p.m. April 2 in the Family Life Center, 301 S.W. Woods Chapel Road. The music will be provided by Carl the DJ. Light snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.

First Presbyterian spaghetti dinner

The First Presbyterian Church will hold a “Spring Spaghetti Fling” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., April 3, at Westminster Hall, 417 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. To-go orders available beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Enjoy spaghetti/meatballs, salad, bread/butter, dessert and beverage for $6, children under 12 eat for $3. Proceeds will help the youth of the church participate in the annual caravan to Estes Park, Colo., as well as other youth-centered events.

Restoration Conference spring conference

The Conference of Restoration Elders will hold its annual spring conference April 3 through 7 at Center Place Restoration School/Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence.

The conference will open April 3 with an evening preaching service. Speaking will be Seventy Richard Neill, chairman of the Conference of Restoration Elders. Other speakers will be Lucas Boyce, April 4, Michael Brown, April 5, and Karl Anderson, April 6. All services begin at 6:30 p.m. with a song service followed by the sermon.
