Missouri Comets midfielder Lucas Rodriguez is the 2010-11 Major Indoor Soccer League Rookie of the Year.

He recorded six goals and seven assists (19 points) in 17 games this season and ranked sixth on the Comets in scoring.

A local product out of Mid-America Nazarene College, Rodriquez led all MISL rookies in points, and scored all of his points in his last 10 games of the season, including a five-point outing on Feb, 16 in a Comets’ win over the Chicago Riot.

Comets defender Brian Harris was also part of the team’s off-season awards roster as he was named to the MISL’s All-Rookie Team.

Harris, who played his college soccer at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, tied for the team lead in blocks with 20, which also tied him for sixth most in the MISL.

MISL coaches, general managers and members of the media voted for the post-season honorees.

“I honestly couldn’t be more proud of Lucas,” Comets coach Kim Roentved said. “His confidence escalated throughout the season after he got his first goal. He has tremendous skills with unlimited potential, and it was a pleasure watching him progress as the year went on.”

Roentved added that Harris made an immediate impact the first time he practiced for the Comets.

“Brian came in last fall as a tryout player, and immediately proved that he belonged,” the coach said. “Little did we know that he would become a starter and such a force in the back for us. The guy is as strong as a bull, and fits right in with today’s more physical game.

“I expect Brian to be a premier defender in this league for a very long time.”
