For the first time, the Lee’s Summit Hawthorn Bank Outlaws are champions of the Memorial Day American Legion Tournament.

The Outlaws went 4-0 and claimed the title after the season-opening tournament’s final two games were wiped out by rain. The Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s placed second.

The Outlaws downed Blue Springs Post 499/Fike 4-3, edged Hi Boy Drive In/Post 340 7-5, topped the Independence VFW Post 1000 Bears 12-7 and defeated the Sedalia Post 642 Travelers 5-3 to claim the title.

In the 4-3 win against Post 499/Fike, Seth Soto and Brett Conrow each had two hits and J.P. Seufert earned the victory on the mound to lead the Outlaws, who scored three runs in the first inning. Dylan Farrell had three hits to lead Fike.

Goeton Gronberg pitched the Outlaws to the win over Hi Boy/Post 340. Five players each had one RBI. Aaron Alter and Jordan Pinkley each doubled to lead Post 340.

Dalton Woods and Seufert each had three hits to lead the Outlaws past the Bears. Tyler Ross earned the win on the mound.

Woods earned the win on the mound against Sedalia.

The A's went 3-0, scoring 38 runs. They routed Independence Post 21 11-2, drubbed the Bears 16-4 and downed the Lee's Summit Post 189 Pirates 11-1.

Wylson Lamb singled twice with three RBIs to help Alex Van Zandt earn the win on the mound in the A's win over Post 21. Chase LaFavor and Ross Paschall each singled twice for Post 21.

David Stober stroked four hits and Kyle Reed and Brandon Bennefeld each drove in three runs for the A's against the Bears. Brett Barbeck was the winning pitcher.

Lamb, Grant Gavin, Corbin Hare, Jeremy Lufft and Will Kesling led a 12-hit A's attack against the Pirates. Bennefeld earned the win on the mound.

BLUE SPRINGS POST 499/FIKE 12, INDEPENDENCE POST 21 3: Chase Messner singled, doubled and hit two solo homers to power Fike. Farrell, C.J. Egelston, Braden Younkin and Reece Eddins added two hits each. Logan Taylor earned the win.

BLUE SPRINGS POST 499/FIKE 4, SEDALIA POST 642 1: Caleb Humphreys pitched Fike to the victory, and Messner doubled in two runs.

LEE’S SUMMIT POST 189 PIRATES 14, HI BOY DRIVE IN/POST 340 4: A six-run third inning sparked the Pirates.

HI BOY DRIVE IN/POST 340 4, INDEPENDENCE POST 21 3: Post 340 scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score 3-3 and scored a run in the eighth to give pitcher Nico Pike the win. Darby Raines, Blake Sellers and Garrett Phillips led Post 340 at the plate. Nick Adrales had two hits for Post 21.

HI BOY-IN/POST 340 10, INDEPENDENCE VFW POST 1000 BEARS 2: David Jean was the winning pitcher. Jordan Pinkley, Griffin Bledsoe and Aaron Schuster each stroked two hits.

POST 189 PIRATES 4, SEDALIA POST 642 1: Austin Buhr had two hits to help Josh Norris to the victory.

SEDALIA POST 642 10, INDEPENDENCE POST 21: Sedalia posted its only tournament victory and dropped Post 340 to 0-4.

In other results, the Bears defeated the Pirates 9-8.
