A fourth person – this time, a retired city employee – has expressed interest in running for the Independence City Council District 4 seat.

Independence native Larry Porter, 68, joins Eileen Weir, Tim Watkins and Michael Fielding in the potential candidate list. Official filing with the city clerk will begin on Oct. 31. Two-term incumbent Jim Page has said that he will not run for re-election.

The district 1, 2 and 3 seats also are up in the April election. Porter is a 1960 William Chrisman High School graduate who retired from the city in 2004 as supervisor of the city’s utility field workers.

“A lot of people asked me to run because they are disappointed in the way the city is going right now, especially in our district,” Porter said Wednesday.
