Three Blue Springs residents were charged with misdemeanors following a Saturday afternoon incident involving a firearm.

Police were called to the 3800 block of Southwest Jackson Street on Saturday afternoon following a disturbance.

Police reported that Dennis Cox was outside his home working on his boat with another man, Michael Lasher, when Sean Thomas drove by the home at a high rate of speed and swerving in the roadway.

Cox and Lasher confronted Thomas and his friends about driving recklessly, at which point Thomas parked his car and reportedly walked back to the area. Lasher grabbed a bat and Cox grabbed his handgun, and Lasher reportedly hit the car mirror on Thomas’ car with the bat.

Cox, meanwhile, tried to cock his handgun and it fired into the air. No one was injured.

Thomas was cited with careless driving, while Lasher and Cox were cited with property damage and Cox was cited for discharging a firearm.
