Fourth District does not need a conflicted councilman.

To the editor:

Fourth District does not need a conflicted councilman.

The southwest part of Independence needs Eileen Weir as its representative on the City Council. Eileen has a proven record of leadership. Eileen was a leader in the successful effort to bring schools from the Kansas City School District into the Independence School District. That was a tremendous victory for all of western Independence.

Her opponent, Mike Fielding, an attorney, does not have anything to say about that victory for western Independence. Could it be because his law firm, Husch-Blackwell, represented the Kansas City School District? It would appear that Mike has a conflict of interest with the citizens of the 4th District, who overwhelmingly supported the move of the schools to the Independence School District.

The 4th District needs a City Council representative who can vote on every issue that comes up. Eileen Weir has a tremendous record of community service and small business experience. Her leadership skills will clearly be evident as a member of the Independence City Council.
