Grain Valley senior Tyree Meadows will be a busy runner at this weekend’s state Class 3 track and field meet at Jefferson City.

He qualified in three events at Saturday’s Class 3 sectional at Oak Grove. He was first in the 1,600 meters, second in the 3,200 and third in the 800 as the Eagles had a second-place team finish with 66 points.

Riley Williams also will be busy. He was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump and a member of the 400 and 800 relay teams.

Zach Hoover was third in the 110 high hurdles. The 400 relay team was second, and the 800 relay was third.

The top four in event qualified for the state meet.

“I was very impressed again with all of our athletes,” Grain Valley coach Marc Cleveland said. “We came close to getting everyone out. The two kids that didn’t make it both placed fifth (Wilson Gaschler long jump, Josh Amos 1,600).

“We even got our sprint relays out minus our fastest kid, Ryan Nace, who is nursing a hamstring injury.

“It was nice our alternates Wilson Gaschler in the 4x200 and David Hudgens in the 4x100 did well. Riley Williams was exceptional, getting out in four events, while Tyree Meadows pulled off an impressive triple. Zach Hoover also got out in three events in the 110 hurdles and two sprint relays.”

The Grain Valley girls team qualified Chelsea Gabriel, who was third in the 100 high hurdles. She, however, was sixth in the 300 lows.

Tyler Banks led the Oak Grove boys team by winning the 400 and 800. He also was a member of the first-place 1,600 relay and second-place 3,200 relay teams.
