The Odessa Jackalopes honored Missouri Mavericks coach Scott Hillman before Tuesday night’s game.
They then proceeded to rout his winless team 8-1 at the Ector County Coliseum.
Hillman – who was an all-star while playing for Odessa for eight seasons and is still the Jackalopes’ all-time leader in games played with 446 – saw his Mavericks drop to 0-5 on their season-opening nine-game road trip.
The Mavericks trailed just 1-0 heading into the second period and assistant coach/player Jeff Christian scored a power-play goal on assists from Bill Vandermeer and Andrew Davis to tie it.
But Odessa’s Collin Circelli and Kory Karlander each scored two goals as the Jackalopes responded with seven unanswered goals, including two short-handed goals and two with a man advantage to turn it into a rout.
Goalie Mike Gorman fell to 0-3, making 28 saves on 36 shots.
