MARCH 28: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lee’s Summit Police Department (Douglas and Tudor roads). Dan Jones is the instructor. Students must be age 11 or older. Go to north side of building to “Bail Bonding” door and ring buzzer to enter. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250.

MARCH 28: What’s the Hub on Shrubs? – 2-4 p.m. for adults ages 18 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Learn about Missouri woody shrubs and what they do for the state’s native forests. Call 816-228-3766 to register.
MARCH 29: Spring Wildflowers – 2:30-4:30 p.m. for adults ages 18 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Learn to identify spring wildflowers during a short presentation in the auditorium, and then go outside on a woodland hike with volunteer naturalist and Missouri Master Naturalist, Barbara VanVleck. Conclude the day by planting a native wildflower in a simple pot to take home for a sunny spot in your backyard. Call 816-228-3766 to register.

APRIL 4: A Sense of Wonder: The Film – 1-2:30 p.m. for ages 12 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. An intimate and poignant portrait of Rachel Carson’s life, this documentary style film uses many of Miss Carson’s own words to recount the attacks she faced as she fought to inform Congress and the American people of the risks posed by chemical pesticides. APRIL 7: Choosing, Planting and Caring for Trees in Your Landscape – 6:30-8 p.m. for adults ages 18 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Learn what species do well in our area and how to plant them to ensure survival. Urban Forester Chuck Conner will discuss all aspects of planting and caring for new landscape trees. APRIL 11: Family Fishing – 1-2:30 p.m. for families with children ages 5 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Discover Nature Families programs are designed to help adults and children explore nature and master outdoor skills together. Learn about fishing tackle, practice casting, and learn how to land that lunker, then fish at the education pond and maybe even taste some wild caught fish. Meet at the W.
