A winter storm that came through the area dumped several inches of snow in Eastern Jackson County.
With temperatures rising into the 40s Sunday, Eastern Jackson County residents are cleaning up after a messy end to the month of March. Snowfall amounts in the area ranged from as much as 5inches in the Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit areas to only 2 to 3 inches in the Independence area, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo. The winter storm began late Friday night with rain and freezing rain after blanketing Colorado and western Kansas under several feet of snow. The heavier snowfall started Saturday afternoon in the Kansas City area, causing slick road and weather conditions throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. The weather even closed KCI airport briefly, because crews were unable to clear the runways quick enough. The snow was heaviest along southern and eastern sections of Kansas City where between 4 and 6 inches fell in the Lee’s Summit and Greenwood areas.
