Breakfast and lunch prices in the Oak Grove School District will be increasing next year.

Breakfast and lunch prices in the Oak Grove School District will be increasing next year.

The Oak Grove Board of Education approved the increases Monday.

Breakfast prices K-12 will increase by 15 cents to $1.25. K-5 lunch prices will increase by 10 cents to $1.75, and 6-12 lunch prices will increase by 20 cents to $2. There will also be a 5-cent increase in milk prices to 40 cents.

Superintendent Freddie Doherty said the increases are needed because of rising food costs and wages.

“We feel even with the increase that we will still be competitive with our surrounding school districts if not below some of their prices,” he said. “We feel this is necessary for our meal program next year.”

Career Ladder

Doherty also discussed the future of the Career Ladder program. The program pays teachers additional funds for going above and beyond their normal duties performing activities such as tutoring.

Part of the funding comes from the state while school districts are responsible for the other portion.

Although the Missouri Legislature did put Career Ladder funding in next year’s budget, it will pay for work completed during the 2009-10 school year.

No funding is expected from the state level next year.

Doherty said he and other district administrators are discussing how Career Ladder will look next year in Oak Grove. The district’s portion is about $172,000.

“We are looking at what we can do as far as tutoring and offering other services,” he said. “We are hopeful that we can have something in place before school starts in the fall.”
