To the editor:

Glen Enloe’s appraisal (letters, Tuesday, “Everett again shows his bias against America values”) of columnist Jim Everett (last Friday, “Saleem’s message, alas, met my expectations”) moves me to speak in Jim’s defense.

I am a conservative yet understand some of Jim’s views. He has recommended many good books for me to read and broaden my understanding. I did buy and read them. They didn’t change my view, just helped me be a more understanding person of other people’s views.

I suggest Enloe read Jim’s book about his life as a covert American spy. He might learn some new things about Jim the person that would temper his extreme criticism.
