Blue Springs Post 499/Fike manager Jim Moran wasn’t sure what to expect.

Just three hours earlier his team botched a five-run lead in a 7-6 defeat to Independence Post 21 in the Zone 2 Tournament at Sedalia. His team faced St. Joseph Post 11 with its season on the line.

It didn’t look too good after 2 1/3 innings as St. Joseph plated three runs in the first and took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. But Fike (48-13) rallied, scoring a run in the third, four in the third and three more in the seventh in an 8-4 triumph.

“It was a big comeback for us,” Moran said. “We were flat the first three innings. But the kids made some adjustments at the plate and we were pitching to batters and playing good defense.”

After a rocky first inning, Cody Cloughley allowed only a run over the final eight frames and struck out four to earn the win. CJ Egelston stroked two doubles, Carson Messner went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Jared Ginter and Dominic DeFeo had a pair of hits each.

Fike will play the Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s at 4 p.m. Saturday.

BLUE SPRINGS ROD’S SPORTS A’S 18, LEE’S SUMMIT HAWTHORN BANK OUTLAWS 3: The A’s cracked 12 hits and benefitted from six Outlaw errors to advance to the loser’s bracket quarterfinals.

David Stober finished 4-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs for the A’s. Corbin Hare busted a pair of doubles and drove in a run and Matt Morrison ended 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.

Grant Hargis picked up the win on the mound.
