The First Christian Church of Independence will hold a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall, 125 S. Pleasant St.

The cost is $3.50 and includes coffee, juice, sausage and all-you-can-eat pancakes.

Oakland UMC set to mark anniversary
Oakland United Methodist Church is celebrating its 131st birthday on Sunday. The homecoming service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a potluck dinner inside the church at 30701 E. Truman Road, Buckner. Bring a covered dish to share.

Hymn sing at Chapel Hill Presbyterian
Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church welcomes back the Rev. Andrew Florio on Sunday. At the 10:30 a.m. morning worship service there will be a congregational hymn sing. Following the service, we’ll hear about the Senior High Mission Trip 2012. They will have photos and stories about their experience. A dessert bar will be provided.

Aug. 8 is Heartland Presbytery Day at Worlds of Fun. Our youth and friends will be going and will carpool from the church at 9:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. Kingdom Kids will be meeting on Aug. 15 at the church. Remember items for Hope House and school supplies for Community Service League.

‘Come and Be Fed’ is weekend theme
Gail Woodstock will speak on the theme “Come and Be Fed” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service this Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Woodstock, a member of the Stone Church Pastors Council, is the pastor for education. Ray McClaran will preside, with special music  Junia Braby and Mary Buxbaum. Others participating in the service are Sherry McClaran, Don Brayton, Martha Hamm and Katie McClaran.

Summit Grove Community of Christ will host a free clothing exchange from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at the church, 411 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence. Clean, gently used clothing, coats, purses, backpacks and more for infants through adults, will be available. Clothing donations appreciated, but not required. Timothy Lutheran School rummage sale
The Parent Teacher League of Timothy Lutheran School is sponsoring a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10, and from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 11 in the Family Life Center of Timothy Lutheran Church, 425 N.W. R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs.

The sale will include clothes, household items, knick-knacks, a raffle, concessions and more. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund.

St. Mark’s Catholic Church will host its 8th Annual Craft Show and Business Expo from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at the church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence.
